Our Story
Heritage & Place
The Obelisk—known locally as "Old Man Rock" stands more than 1,600 metres above Central Otago’s high country. This ancient schist tor has been shaped by wind, ice, and unforgiving seasons across millennia. Its presence has long guided those who move through the region, acting as a point of navigation and a symbol of endurance and quiet strength. It is part of the identity of Central Otago, a natural marker that anchors the landscape and the people who work within it.
Beneath this landmark is the valley where our large premium cherries are nurtured. These orchards face a demanding climate: harsh winters, hot dry summers, cold nights, and clear, thin air. The fruit that grows here carries the imprint of these conditions—deep colour, concentrated flavour, and a clarity that can only come from altitude and exposure. The Obelisk looks over this environment, and in many ways defines it. The wine reflects the character of this place: pure, resilient, and shaped by the extremes of the country.
Our Philosophy
We work with respect for the land that supports us, care for the craft we practise and acknowledge the generosity in the moments our wine will be shared.
Thoughtfulness guides each decision—from the fruit we grow, to the barrels we age in, to the final bottle that carries the Obelisk name.
Every release is an expression of the values tied to this landmark. Distinctive. Enduring. Authentic to Central Otago. Made for gatherings where people pause, connect, and share something genuine.
